    2010 - 08.08

Johnny Bravo returns to Labor Day looking to improve on a 5th place finish from last year and carry much needed momentum into the USAU series.  The team has undergone tremendous turnover over the past few years with former Bravo players now scattered on elite teams throughout the country, retired or sidelined due to injuries.  The 2009 season served as a rebuilding year as new players stepped into leadership roles both on and off the field.   Bravo 2010 retains the core players from last year and adds the strongest recruiting class in Bravo history.  Armed with a fantastic coach and energetic team leadership, the team has forged a new identity and has high hopes for the 2010 season.
Coach Krier is revolutionizing the way Bravo plays ultimate.  He has provided much needed focus and intensity to training sessions this season as he shapes the team for the USAU championship tournament.  Bravo is also much deeper than the team has been in the past; opposing teams at Labor Day can expect to see rookies getting plenty of playing time in preparation for the fall.   Bravo finished with a record of 5-2 at Colorado Cup earlier this month, falling to GOAT (16-17) and Truck Stop (13-14).  Although Bravo failed to win the tournament, the early season performances from the rookies against top level teams are encouraging.

Ryan Farrell (#16), Parker Krug (#19) and Steven Rouisse (#9) are a few of the most dynamic throwers in the game.  Brett Kolonik (#11) and Justin Salvia (#25) are back to form as secondaries in the handler rotation.  Rookies James Hughes (#72) and Jack McShane (#5) stepped up big in the offensive lineup at Colorado Cup and their respective roles on the field are expected to grow in time.  Timmy Paymaster (#86), Mitch Schminke (#89), Keith Borsheim (#6) and Clark Bishop (#30) provide excellent downfield options.  Borsheim also doubles in the handler position. Paymaster and Schminke both have great hands and keep the offense moving.  Bishop is a speedy receiver you will occasionally see on the D-line.   Rookies Jackson Koor (#24) and Andy Stringer (#32), two of Bravo’s fastest players, both received ample time as offensive receivers at Colorado Cup but their roles are as of yet still undefined.

Bravo’s D-line remains almost unchanged from last year.  Josh Ackley (#20) anchors the D-line and handles along with Darin DeLay (#21), Matty Zemel (#13) and Adam Zwickl (#84).  Zemel, in particular, has stepped up this year with great performances on both sides of the disc.  David Belsheim (#17), Jeff Berget (#3), Craig Forshee (#14)  and Andrew Mangan (#4) return as downfield defenders.  Both Belsheim and Mangan are now fully recovered from shoulder injuries and are expected to play at 100%.  Veteran Joe Durst (#0) is still recovering from surgery but was able to get some defensive reps in at Colorado Cup.  Rookies Steve Roberts (#27), Jordan White (#12) and Jeff Cohee (#15) all had big plays at Colorado Cup and provide much needed depth that Bravo was missing from last year.  Roberts and White provide over 400 lbs of defensive muscle, their respective jumping abilities complement Bravo’s speed on the ground.  Cohee’s performances at Colorado Cup and practice earned him a late roster spot.  Finally, rookies Jimmy Mickle (#23) and Jon Greenberg (#10) make their first elite ultimate debut at Labor Day. Greenberg returns from Alaska and Mickle (#23) returns from winning Gold with the USAU U-20 team in Germany.
